911 Regional Dispatch
Responsible for the safety of the county, the Regional Dispatch Center maintains a 24x7 call center for 911 emergencies, medical, sheriff, police, fire and general dispatch in the area. Hardware in place was in dire need of replacement and in imminent danger of failure. The main server was running Windows 2000, and had been in place for several years in a back room corner on the floor. Communications devices and wiring were in precarious physical positions, making preventative maintenance virtually impossible.
A project was implemented by the 911 Director to replace the communications systems as well as the workstations and servers in the call center.
Black's Support Services, LLC was chosen to lead the network, server and workstation replacement. Dell servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 were installed, Dell Workstations running Microsoft Windows XP Professional replaced the aging workstations. The line of business application that provides dispatch operates with Microsoft SQL 2005 on one of the servers. A Dell 4210 server rack was placed in the server and communications room to securely hold the equipment and provide access for maintenance and operations. The project was completed successfully with no unscheduled downtime. This solution will serve the residents of the region for years to come.
